Don’t Belong
I walked to lonesome streets of your hometown
Turned the corner searchin’ for the truth
Shuffled up the sidewalk starin’ down
Wishin’ I could stumble into you
In this place that knew you as a child
Runnin’ to your house upon the hill
Long before you started runnin’ wild
And before you learned that time won’t stand still
I swear I saw you hurry ‘cross the street
When all at once you disappeared from sight
And wondered where you ran to be alone
Whenever you got mad enough to fight
For all this time I just can’t let it go
This memory that I’ve tried to keep alive
With a feeling I thought I’d never know
Of emptiness that haunts those who survive
* See you everywhere I go
You call my name then whisper low
To tell me that there’s nothin’ wrong
And as your voice cuts through the night
I’m chasin’ shadows left and right
And feelin’ like I don’t belong…………Don’t belong
Found an empty bench in the park
Stared up at the open sky
Counted every headlight in the dark
Until an ambulance went racing by
No one ever knew that I was there
So when I left I never had to say
Just how it felt when time stood still
The night you chose to make your getaway
* See you everywhere I go
You call my name then whisper low
To tell me that there’s nothin’ wrong
And as your voice cuts through the night
I’m chasin’ shadows left and right
And feelin’ like I don’t belong … Don’t belong … Don’t belong … Don’t belong … Don’t belong
