Pressure on a Workin’ Man

We gather ‘round and have a drink or two, tellin’ tales of what we plan to do
But I can’t plan for the future no more, cause the past keeps knockin’ at my front door

I hear the stories that my friends tell,  and nobody breaks for the noon-time bell
Cause there ain’t no work  till the orders come in,  laid off and wonderin’ when we start again
Things look bad all across the land,  there’s a whole ton of pressure on a workin’ man
ton of pressure on a workin’ man

Out in the mornin’ with nowplace to go,  drive by the plant and the gate’s still closed
Maybe  they’ll open, don’t know if they willl, so the first shift meets at the bar and grill

Government checks don’t stretch too far,  buy a few tanks of gas and a few at the bar
But I need that money to stay alive,  without that paper I can’t survive
Things look bad all across the land,  there’s a whole ton of pressure on a workin’ man
ton of pressure on a workin’ man

Set in my ways, don’t know nothin’ else,  sit at home feelin’ sorry for myself
Don’t have a family,   but if I did,  I just couldn’t face my wife and kids
Things look bad all across the land,  there’s a whole ton of pressure on a workin’ man
ton of pressure on a workin’ man
